Why I built it

The tool my own chapter needed

I competed at the FBLA state conference and didn't advance. The prep that existed was scattered: old tests, generic study guides, nothing tied to the topics an event actually covers. As my chapter's competition chair, I wanted something better for everyone.

What it does

Practice that matches the real event

ChapterPrep covers 226 competitive events across FBLA, DECA and HOSA, one organization at a time: 76 for FBLA, 60 for DECA and 90 for HOSA. 139 of them have practice tests built from the event's official outline, whether that is FBLA's topic outline, DECA's instructional areas or HOSA's test plan. Every wrong answer comes with an explanation, and missed questions go into a mistake bank for review.

117 events get an AI judge that scores role plays, speeches and presentations against the event's own rating sheet, typed or spoken. For FBLA that means the official 2026-27 rating sheets with their real points. Advisors can turn a chapter meeting into a live mock competition with a join code (Mock Regionals for FBLA and HOSA, Mock Districts for DECA), then see a readiness report for every member.

Every event has its own home: a plan in plain words, one next step, and a chat that answers questions about that event. Every test area has a lesson and flashcards, so a student can learn a topic before being tested on it.

Decisions that mattered

  1. 01

AI doesn't get to do the math

Language models make mistakes on multi-step arithmetic. The test generator calls a real calculator for every number, and the app re-checks each numeric answer before a student sees it, dropping the question if the right answer isn't among the choices.

  2. 02

    Every question is checked twice

A second pass reviews each generated question before it reaches a student, so a bad question gets caught instead of taught.

  3. 03

    Rebuilt in five days

When FBLA sent a cease and desist over the product's original name, I rebuilt and rebranded the whole thing as ChapterPrep in five days, without losing a single student's data.

  4. 04

Three organizations, one at a time

When DECA and HOSA joined in October 2026, each got its own events, vocabulary, judge and pen color, and a student only ever sees their own organization. For the FBLA members already using it, that release changed the app in exactly three small places.

Where it stands

  • ▹Used by more than 350 students.
  • ▹Free at chapterprep.com. ChapterPrep is independent and not affiliated with FBLA, DECA or HOSA.
